Renovated Festetics Mansion in Böhönye

The Festetics mansion in Böhönye, Somogy County has undergone extensive renovation in recent months.

According to the plans, the new owners established a 15-room wine hotel and event center in the mansion, and a separate winery processing plant was also built by renovating and expanding an old Festetics press house.

The construction of the press house began sometime in the first half of the 1800s. Its peculiarity is that the cellar is nearly 130 meters long, and it is probably the largest wooden press in Europe, which is about 9.5 meters long and 3.5 meters high.
Special construction solutions were also used during the project; the slabs on both levels are circular hollow planks manufactured by Leier Hungária Kft. The span is 11 meters and 5-6 tons per panel, which was lifted into place by specialists with a 40-ton crane. In addition, the bathrooms are all made according to a unique design, and even a human-sized fireplace is located in the building.

Waterproofing was carried out by injection on the old walls, equipped with a Baumit drying plaster system. For the construction of the project, CEM II/B-M (V-LL) type cement from Beremend was  used, and approximately 500 m3 of concrete was needed by the builders, among many other raw materials.

The project was completed in July 2022.
